Chatra Parivahan Suraksha Yojana

  The Haryana Government is planning to launch the “Chatra Parivahan Suraksha Yojana‟ to ensure safety
of girl students.
 For facilitating women, the state govt has opened women police stations in districts.
 Besides, women help desks have also been set up. Earlier, women constituted 6% of the police force which has now been increased to 9% by the present government.
 Now, it has been decided to further increase this percentage to 11.

Parcel Cargo Express Train

 Indian Railway started operating one lease Parcel Cargo Express Train (PCET) connecting northeastern part of the country to West Coast on fortnightly basis.
 It has been launched on line of Govt‟s priority to provide connectivity to northeast region and empowering local industries of this region.
 The PCET will enable farmers from northeast to market their lucrative products like tea, betal nuts, pineapple, jute, horticulture products, cane furniture etc. at retail markets in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Nagpur, Pune.
 Its will cover New Guwahati in Assam to Kalyan in Maharashtra.

IMD issues advisory to states and UT

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued advisory to Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Lakshadweep archipelago (UT) over cyclonic storm ‘Sagar’.
The cyclonic storm was developed as low pressure area in Arabian Sea which gained strength and intensified into depression and later into a cyclone ‘Sagar’.
It is the first cyclonic storm of season to develop in Indian waters.
The cyclonic storm lay cantered over Gulf of Aden, about 390 km eastnortheast of Yemen’s Aden city and 560 km west-northwest of Socotra Islands.
It will made landfall in coastal Somalia

BASIC Ministerial Meeting of Environment Ministers

 The 26th BASIC Ministerial Meeting of Environment Ministers held in Durban, South Africa.
 The grouping is a bloc of four countries – Brazil, South Africa, India and China.
 It was attended by from BASIC countries and Michal Kurtyka of Poland, next president of Conference of Parties (COP-24) under United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
 India was represented by Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan.
 BASIC countries are bloc (geopolitical alliance) of four large newly industrialized countries – Brazil, South Africa, India and China.

India’s Next Generation Stealth Fighter Jet

 The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), which had conceived and designed the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, has set the ball rolling for building the next generation defense aircraft, the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), by extending an invitation to private players in Coimbatore to build a technology demonstrator.
 The proposal is not only the first time an indigenous military aircraft programme is seeing the involvement of private players, but it is also the first time a defense plane development project is proposed to be executed outside Bengaluru.
 The project to be implemented in Sulur in Coimbatore district which may house the permanent base of the Tejas squadron marks Tamil Nadu‟s first major defense aircraft project.

India test-fires BrahMos supersonic cruise missile

 India successfully test-fired the Indo-Russian joint venture BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from a test range along the Odisha coast to validate some new features.
 The missile was test-fired from a mobile launcher stationed at Launch pad 3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur.
 The trial was conducted to validate its “life extension” technologies developed for the first time in India by DRDO and team BraHmos.
 The successful test will result in huge savings of replacement cost of missiles held in the inventory of the Indian Armed Forces.
 The two-stage missile – first being solid and the second one, a ramjet liquid propellant – has already been introduced in the Army and Navy, while the Air Force version had witnessed successful trial.

China launches relay satellite

 China has launched relay satellite named Queqiao (Magpie Bridge) to establish communication link between earth and its planned Chang‟e-4 lunar probe (rover) that will explore the dark side of moon.
 It was launched as part of Chinese Lunar Exploration Program (CLEP) onboard of Long March-4C rocket from Xichang launch centre.
 Queqiao (meaning bridge of magpies) satellite will serve as communications relay for future Change-4 rover that will explore in South Pole-Aitken Basin in moon’s far side.
 It will be situated in halo orbit i.e. Earth-moon Lagrange point L2, a gravitationally stable spot located 64,000 kilometers beyond lunar far side.
 It will be world’s first communication satellite operating in this location

15th Finance Commission

 The Fifteenth Finance Commission constituted high level group to explore and give recommendations for a balanced expansion of the health sector.
 The high level group will be headed by Dr. Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS, New Delhi.
 It will evaluate existing regulatory framework in health sector and examine its strength and weaknesses for enabling balanced and faster expansion keeping in view India’s demographic profile.


India-CLMV Business Conclave

The 5th India-CLMV (Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam) Business Conclave held at Phnom Penh,
It was jointly organised by Ministry of Commerce & Industry along with Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia.
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is institutional partner of the event.
It saw participation of ministerial and business delegations from India, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam
and Laos consisting of about 400 delegates.
CLMV region is considered as India’s gateway to entire ASEAN and provides access to huge markets of these countries.

India ranks 44 in 2018 Competitiveness

 India has been ranked 44th in terms of competitiveness for year 2018, in the annual rankings compiled by International Institute for Management Development (IMD).
 The US becomes the most competitive economy globally driven by its strength in economic performance and infrastructure.
 US is followed by Hong Kong and Singapore.
 This year India ranked the 12th most competitive economy out of the 14 Asian countries on the list.
