Gujarat to offer PNG subsidy
Gujarat is planning to launch the new PNG/LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) SahayYojana—an extension to the Ujjwala Yojana.
The scheme for select urban areas will supplement Ujjwala for BPL-AAY households not covered under Ujjwala to help supply households with clean fuel.
About the Pradhan Mantri UjjwalaYojana:
Aims to provide LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) connections to poor households
Eligible households will be identified in consultation with state governments and Union territories.
The scheme is being implemented by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas
According to the World Health Organization, solid fuel use is responsible for about 13% of all mortality and morbidity in India and causes about 40% of all pulmonary disorders, and over 20% each of ischemic heart disease, lung cancer and lower respiratory infection
Nigeria has announced that it is free from Lassa fever outbreak.
The announcement follows the epidemiological review by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Lassa fever is an acute viral illness of 2-21 days duration that occurs inWest Africa.
The Lassa virus is transmitted to humans via contact with food or household items contaminated with rodent urine or faeces.
Person-to-person infections and laboratory transmission can also occur, particularly in hospitals lacking adequate infection prevention and control measures.
Lassa fever is known to be endemic in Benin, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria
The overall case-fatality rate is 1%.
Early supportive care with rehydration and symptomatic treatment improves survival.
National Technology Day
Since 1999, May 11 is celebrated as National Technology Day to mark India’s technological advancements.

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam lead the Indian team of scientists to successfully test-fire the Shakti-1 nuclear missile at Rajasthan’s Pokhran test range.
Hansa 3, India’s first indigenous aircraft was first tested on the same day in 1998 in Bangalore.
Successful test firing ofTrishul, a short range missile made in India, was also done on the same day.
Every year, on this day, the Technology Development Board of India awards various individuals with national awards for their contribution to indigenous technology
Bangabandhu is Bangladesh‟s first communications satellite.
Built by Thales Alenia Space, a Franco-Italian aerospace manufacturer, it is designed to provide a wide range of broadcast and communication services throughout the country for the next 15 years.
It is named after Bangladesh‟s “Father of the Nation”- Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Applications: Once operational, citizens of Bangladesh will gain access to the Internet, phone services, radio, backhaul, direct-to-home TV, and other related services
So far, a majority of Bangladesh‟s communications was based on rented transponders from neighbouring countries and this satellite will make the country autonomous, in terms of telecommunications and broadcasting services.
Fifteenth Finance Commission has constituted an Advisory Council to advise and assist the Commission.

CBDT inks 200th Unilateral APA
Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT)A entered into 200th Unilateral Advance Pricing Agreement (UAPA) after it singed one in April 2018.
With the signing of the agreement, CBDT has achieved another milestone of having signed its 200th UAPA.
Total number ofAPAs entered into CBDT so far has gone up to 220, which include 20 Bilateral APAs.
UAPA entered in April, 2018 pertains to provision ofsourcing support services.
APA scheme launched by Govt endeavours to provide certainty to taxpayers in domain of transfer pricing by specifying methods of pricing and setting prices of international transactions in advance.
Its provision was introduced in Income-tax Act, 1961 in 2012 and Rollback provisions to it were introduced in 2014.
It helps in determining arm’s length price of international transactions in advance for max period of 5 future years.
